Battle of Okinawa

As the last major battle of the Pacific War, Okinawa was a brutal and decisive confrontation that foreshadowed the immense cost of a potential invasion of Japan. Spanning over three months, it became one of the deadliest engagements of World War II, marked by relentless combat, the Japanese counteroffensive Operation Ten-ichi-go, the devastating kamikaze attacks, and unimaginable civilian suffering. The Battle of Okinawa was a turning point, underscoring Okinawa’s critical strategic importance to the Allied forces.

Each phase will explore pivotal battles, VE and VJ Day celebrations, and the enduring impact of the war.
