They Came In Peace

October 5, 2024 @ 10:00 am - November 3, 2024 @ 5:00 pm
They Came in Peace Museum of the American G.I.
In 1983, the world bore witness to two unfathomable tragedies—the bombing of the US Embassy in Beirut and the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing that shook the city, the Marine Corps, the United States, and the entire world. It claimed the lives of 241 American service members, including 220 Marines, 18 Navy medical personnel, three soldiers, and 58 French Paratroopers.

For the Marines, October 23, 1983, was the highest loss of life in a single day since D-Day on Iwo Jima in 1945.

“They Came In Peace” pays homage to the dedication and courage of those who served and sacrificed for our nation in 1983. It’s a powerful tribute to the indomitable spirit of our military.

Discover photographs and personal accounts that bring this moment in history to life. Don’t miss this incredible journey through a chapter that forever altered the course of history and international relations.

We invite you to visit in October to remember and reflect on an important event whose aftermath still impacts our international diplomacy and security.   The 1983 events in Lebanon are a stark reminder of the complexities of peacekeeping, security, diplomacy, and the urgency of confronting terrorism. Join us as we honor and remember the brave men and women who have served our great nation during this international turmoil.
