Donate A Vehicle
Help Bring History Alive!
The Museum of the American G.I.’s impressive military vehicle collection has been built entirely through the generous donation of vehicle collectors. These donations allow the museum to bring history alive, create lasting memories for our visitors, and continue our mission. If you would like to share a vehicle to expand our collection, please consider a donation.
Aside from preserving history, donating a vehicle to the Museum of the American G.I.’s permanent collection can also provide tax advantages to the donor. This is because the donor is generally allowed to deduct the fair market value of the donated vehicle. In contrast, when a vehicle is donated to a charity for resale, the donor’s tax deduction is limited to the charity’s sale price. It’s a win-win situation that contributes to history and provides the donor tax benefits.
If you are interested in donating a vehicle to the Museum of the American G.I.’s permanent collection, please read our Acquisition Guidelines listed below. Please note that at the moment, we do not accept items on loan, only permanent donations.
Acquisition Guidelines
We are always looking to expand our collection and welcome relevant vehicle donations. The Board of Directors approves all vehicle donations.
- The vehicle must be consistent with and relevant to the museum’s stated purpose, scope, and activities. What is the current or future exhibit potential?
- Does the vehicle have any unique or rare features?
- What story does it tell? While we will not automatically rule out items from other countries, it is important to note that our focus is on American military equipment.
- As we have limited storage and facilities, the museum’s ability to adequately store and preserve the vehicles will be a significant determining factor in their acceptance. No vehicles will be considered for acquisition if future care and preservation are deemed to exceed the museum’s resources. If the vehicle requires such restoration for use or display, we highly encourage the donation(s) to include financial support for their storage and preservation.
- All acquisitions are to be outright and unconditional.
- The museum has a firm policy of not accepting items under loan, either short—or long-term, unless the loan is between the museum and a section of the US Federal Government.
- Upon the formal and physical transfer of items to the museum, all donations to the museum’s collections are irrevocable.
- All legal instruments of conveyance and warranty of title, signed by the donor/seller/agent/etc. setting forth an adequate description of the items involved and the precise conditions of the transfer shall accompany all acquisitions.
- All acquisitions made by gift or bequest to the museum will remain in the museum’s possession for as long as they retain their physical integrity and authenticity and as long as they remain useful for the museum’s purposes.
- Federal law prevents the museum from providing identification services or appraisal values for donated items. Donors are responsible for appraisals of value.
