SUMMARY:Seeds of Victory
DESCRIPTION:During World War II\, the battle for victory wasn’t fought only overseas—it was fought at kitchen tables\, in grocery lines\, and in backyard gardens across America. Join us on April 4 for an engaging talk with Sara Boswell as she explores how everyday Americans adapted to wartime shortages and rationing through creative cooking and the nationwide Victory Garden movement. \nThis program will examine how ration books worked\, which foods were hardest to come by\, and how families learned to “make do” while still feeding their households. Learn how Victory Gardens transformed lawns into lifelines\, supplying fresh produce and boosting morale on the home front. Along the way\, we’ll share period recipes\, surprising substitutions\, and the powerful connection between food\, patriotism\, and perseverance. \nWhether you’re interested in WWII history\, home-front stories\, or the ingenuity of ordinary citizens during extraordinary times\, this talk offers a fascinating look at how food helped fuel the war effort—and sustain a nation. \nFree with admission.

SUMMARY:Vietnam Era Hands-on History Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Join us April 25–26 for a special weekend honoring the men and women who served during the Vietnam War. \nStep into history as the Museum of the American G.I. hosts an outdoor Vietnam-era living history display. Explore an authentic tent camp\, see military vehicles used by U.S. Army and Marine Corps forces\, and speak with historians and interpreters about the experiences of those who served. \nGuests will also have the opportunity to experience history firsthand by riding in a historic M113 armored personnel carrier\, offering a glimpse of the vehicles that carried troops during the conflict. \nThis weekend is an opportunity to learn more about the conflict\, hear stories of service and sacrifice\, and recognize the courage of the Vietnam veterans whose contributions were too often overlooked when they returned home. \nThe museum building will be open during the event\, though Sunday hours will be slightly modified due to a private function. The outdoor hands-on history displays will continue throughout the day. \nThe event is included with Museum Admission.
