Civil War (1861-1865)

Beginning in 1861 and lasting until 1865, the Civil War saw Americans fighting against each other either for the Union or the Confederacy. The central cause for the Civil War was slavery, however other causes like state’s rights and western expansion were also at the forefront.

The Civil War was one of the costliest and deadliest wars to ever be fought on American soil with 620,000 soldiers killed and millions more injured.
